What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD/BELL 430/12, 12/2007 DM) applying to Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) Model 430 helicopters, serial numbers up to 49120, fitted with disc assemblies part numbers (P/N) 36300-1, 37855-1 and C048354-1. It requires verification of the manufacturing date, total thickness and indexing of the listed disc assemblies in accordance with BHTC Alert Service Bulletin ASB-430-07-40 dated 28 March 2007 or later approved revisions (Requirement 1). Where discs are outside the expressly stated thickness limits, or are not properly indexed, the AD requires removal of the affected disc assembly (Requirements 2 and 3). The AD prohibits installation of any of those disc assemblies into any helicopter after the effective date unless the disc assembly is compliant with ASB-430-07-40 or later approved revisions (Requirement 4). The AD became effective on 3 October 2007 and was issued by David Villiers as a delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority on 28 September 2007. The AD also expressly references Transport Canada Airworthiness Directive CF-2007-15 dated 24 August 2007.
The AD provides numerical thickness limits for each listed P/N: 36300-1 (minimum 0.174 inch / 4.42 mm; maximum 0.186 inch / 4.75 mm), 37855-1 (minimum 0.126 inch / 3.20 mm; maximum 0.138 inch / 3.50 mm) and C048354-1 (minimum 0.046 inch / 1.16 mm; maximum 0.051 inch / 1.29 mm). It identifies a manufacturing date window during which suspect assemblies may have been produced: 1 November 2005 to 30 November 2006. The AD sets discrete compliance timeframes for each numbered Requirement: verification (Requirement 1) must be completed unless already accomplished no later than 25 flight hours or 30 days from the AD’s effective date; removal for thickness nonconformity (Requirement 2) must be completed within 10 flight hours after finishing Requirement 1; removal for indexing nonconformity (Requirement 3) must be completed within 300 flight hours or at the next scheduled inspection, whichever comes first, after finishing Requirement 1; the installation prohibition (Requirement 4) is effective from the AD’s effective date.
