Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This directive requires owners/operators of specified Bell 222 series helicopters to correct a potentially deadly failure of the emergency flotation system squib valve, which can prevent inflation and cause sinking. It applies to Bell 222U (S/N 47501–47549) with kits P/N 222-706-093-117 or -123, and Bell 222/222B (S/N 47008–47089) with kits P/N 222-706-093-115 or -121.

Repairs/inspections must follow Bell Alert Service Bulletin No. 222U-87-16 or No. 222-87-41 within 500 flight hours after 7 May 1987 or by 31 July 1987; prior compliance to an earlier version is not acceptable.
