Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory aviation safety directive (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Bell 212 helicopters with serial numbers between 30501 and 30863, plus serial number 30865.

What it requires: You must replace the tail rotor drive shaft (a critical component that transfers power to the tail rotor) on these helicopters.

When: Within 200 hours of flight time after 30 September 1978.

Why it matters: This prevents potentially catastrophic mechanical failure. The directive references a manufacturer service bulletin (SB 212-78-7) that identifies a safety defect in the original drive shaft. Non-compliance means the aircraft cannot legally fly.
