Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this requires

This airworthiness directive mandates the installation of emergency float bag deflectors on Bell 212 helicopters. You must fit part number 212-030-629-101 on the left-hand side and part number 212-030-629-102 on the right-hand side.

Who must comply

Owners and operators of any Bell 212 helicopter that has emergency flotation equipment installed.

Compliance requirements

The deflectors must be installed exactly as described in Bell Helicopter Service Bulletin No. 212-78-5. This is an immediate grounding directive — you cannot fly the helicopter again until the parts are installed (the rule states "prior to further flight").

Why this matters

These deflectors ensure emergency flotation bags deploy cleanly during a water landing. Without them, the bags could catch on the airframe or fail to inflate properly, potentially causing the helicopter to sink in an emergency situation.
