Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: Requires owners and operators of specific Bell 206B helicopters to inspect the main rotor split cone set — a critical component that helps secure the main rotor blades to the hub — before flying the aircraft after 5 March 1976.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Bell 206B helicopters with serial numbers 1464 to 1857, 1860 to 1894, 1899, and 1903.

What must be done: The inspection must be carried out in accordance with Bell Service Bulletin 206-76-2 (the manufacturer's official safety instructions).

Why it matters: The main rotor split cone set is essential for keeping the rotor blades attached during flight. This directive prevents catastrophic mechanical failure by ensuring potential defects are identified and rectified before the aircraft flies.

Compliance deadline: Before any further flight after 5 March 1976.
