Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive mandates safety inspections for a specific bolt on certain Bell 206 helicopters to prevent mechanical failure.

What it requires:

Target aircraft: Bell 206 and Agusta Bell 206 helicopters with serial numbers below 1234.
The problem: The "T" bolt on the starter generator retaining clamp requires checking due to safety concerns.
Inspection schedule:
- First inspection within 10 hours of flying time.
- Then, check it before every flight where the engine will be shut down.
- Continue these checks until a modified (fixed) bolt is installed.
Who can inspect: Pilots are allowed to perform the repetitive pre-flight checks themselves—they don't need a mechanic for these ongoing inspections.

Why it matters: A faulty retaining clamp bolt could lead to starter generator failure, potentially causing power loss or in-flight emergencies.
