Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This safety directive requires owners and operators of specific Bell 206 series helicopters to check and fix a faulty part in the tail rotor control system.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Bell 206A, 206B, AB206A, and AB206B helicopters with specific serial numbers listed in the referenced service documents (excluding those already modified per Service Instruction No. 206-60).

What must be done:

Inspection: Within 25 flight hours after 30 November 1972, inspect the Anti Torque Control Idler Assembly (part number 206-001-746-5) following the steps in Bell Service Bulletin 206-22 (or the Agusta equivalent).
Rework: Within 100 flight hours after that same date, rework the idler assembly according to the service bulletin instructions.

Why it matters: The directive prevents potential failure of the tail rotor control system (the system that keeps the helicopter pointing in the right direction), which is critical for flight safety.
