Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) mandates safety inspections for the emergency flotation solenoid valve on certain Bell helicopters.

Who it affects:

Operators of Bell 206, Agusta-Bell AB-206, and TH-57A helicopters
Only applies to aircraft equipped with high skid gear and emergency flotation systems

What it requires:

Inspect the solenoid valve that controls emergency flotation deployment (the system that keeps the helicopter afloat during water landings)
Complete the initial inspection within 25 flight hours after 26 October 1972
Continue inspecting every 90 days thereafter

Why it matters: Ensures the emergency flotation system will function during an emergency water landing. A defective valve could prevent the flotation gear from deploying, risking the aircraft and occupants sinking.

How to comply: Follow the inspection procedures in Bell Service Bulletin 206-21 Rev. 'A' (or Agusta Service Bulletin BT206-53 Rev. A for Agusta models).
