Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This directive requires owners of specific Bell 206 helicopters to modify the main transmission gearbox before reinstalling it in an aircraft.

Who it affects: Operators of Bell 206 and Agusta Bell 206 helicopters that have a main transmission with part number 206-040-002-5, unless the transmission already incorporates five specific modifications listed in Bell Service Letter 206A-159.

What you must do: Before putting the transmission back into an aircraft after its next overhaul (completed after 31 December 1970), you must carry out the modification described in Bell Service Bulletin 206A-17, Part II.

Why it matters: This ensures a critical safety update is applied to the helicopter's main transmission to prevent mechanical failure.
