What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive (AD) that imposes mandatory inspection, removal and installation restrictions on specific tail rotor driveshaft disc assemblies for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) Model 206 and Model 206L series helicopters. It applies only to helicopters that meet the specified serial-number limits and that are fitted with disc assemblies part number (P/N) 32721-1 (Applicability). The directive identifies a manufacturing-date window , discs manufactured between 1 November 2005 and 30 November 2006 , as the population at risk (Background). It requires verification of manufacturing date, thickness and correct indexing in accordance with the applicable Alert Service Bulletins (ASBs): ASB-206-07-114 (206 series) and ASB-206L-07-145 (206L series), both dated 28 March 2007 (Requirement 1). If the verification shows no non-compliance and the manufacture date is outside the specified window, the directive requires making an appropriate log-book entry and no further action (Requirement 1).
Where verification shows non-conforming parts, the AD mandates removal of any disc assembly not within the thickness tolerance of 0.115-0.127 inch (2.921-3.225 mm) (Requirement 2) and removal of any disc assembly that is not properly indexed (Requirement 3). It further prohibits installation of P/N 32721-1 into any helicopter unless the assembly is compliant with the specified ASBs or later approved revisions (Requirement 4). The AD sets binding compliance windows for each requirement, with the overall AD becoming effective 3 October 2007 (Compliance; Effective date). The document points to Transport Canada Airworthiness Directive CF-2007-16 (24 August 2007) for reference (Note).
