What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) addressed to a defined set of Bell 206 and Agusta Bell 206 series helicopters. Mechanically, it requires operators to inspect and, if necessary, correct or replace the upper left hand tailboom attachment bolt where the upper left hand tailboom attachment fitting is a CRES (corrosion-resistant) steel fitting, part number 407-030-750-103. The Directive directs three discrete actions drawn from the Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Alert Service Bulletins 206-06-110 or 206L-06-140 (as applicable) and the applicable maintenance manual: (1) determine presence of the specified CRES fitting and, if present, inspect the bolt and correct washer installation in accordance with Part I of the applicable Alert Service Bulletin; (2) if bolt replacement is necessary following the inspection, replace the upper left hand bolt in accordance with Part II of the applicable Alert Service Bulletin; and (3) perform a torque check of the upper left hand tailboom attaching hardware in accordance with the applicable maintenance manual. Those actions are laid out under the document’s Requirement section with cross-reference to the Parts I and II of the specified Alert Service Bulletins and to later Transport Canada approved revisions.
The AD applies to Model 206A, 206B, 206L, 206L-1, 206L-3 and 206L-4 helicopters (Applicability). It sets explicit compliance timing: the Part I inspection and any washer correction must be done within 50 hours time in service after 10 May 2007 unless already accomplished; the torque check must be done at the next scheduled 100-hour inspection or annual inspection, whichever occurs first, following completion of Part I; and, if bolt replacement is done pursuant to Part II, a torque check must be performed at the next scheduled 100-hour inspection following the bolt replacement. The AD became effective on 7 June 2007 and identifies Transport Canada AD CF-2007-01 as a related document (the AD text states: "This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 June 2007" and "Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2007-01 refers").
