Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Bell 206 series and Agusta‑Bell AB206 helicopters fitted with Eaton Tedeco B3188B or B4093 chip detectors to perform continuity tests and temporary repairs per the manufacturer service bulletins, prohibits installing unchecked spare detectors, and mandates replacement of any repaired detector within 300 flight hours or by 31 March 2002. It affects owners, operators and maintenance organisations because poor detector continuity can prevent chip warnings and so imposes inspection, repair and replacement obligations.

SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

AD/BELL 206/148 Amdt 1 (Continued)

Background: Transport Canada has advised that BHTC has become aware that Tedeco B3188B and B4093 chip detectors installed on Model 206A, 206B and 206L Series helicopters could have poor or no continuity between the insert and the chip detector housing.

This could result in no chip indication when the chip detector has been bridged by metal particles.

The original issue of this Directive required a continuity test and temporary repair of the affected chip detectors and, if necessary, their replacement.

This amendment introduces the same requirements for AB206A and AB206B helicopters manufactured by Agusta.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 17 October 2001.
