Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This safety directive orders owners of specified Bell and Agusta Bell 206-series helicopters to inspect and replace T.J. Electronics fuel-valve electrical connectors (MS3456W14S-5S) that can short internally and cause the fuel valve to rapidly open/close, risking engine failure or power loss. Affected operators must follow the manufacturer repair instructions in the cited Bell/Agusta service bulletins; compliance deadlines were 1 March 1988 (Bell 206) and 6 October 1988 (Agusta Bell).

The failure has been traced to an internal short circuit within the fuel valve connector P/N MS3456W14S- 5S manufactured by T.J. Electronics, and identified by the prefix TJE.

Amendment 2 to this Directive is being issued to include Agusta Bell 206 as an applicable aircraft.
