Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This safety directive requires owners and operators of specific Bell 205A-1 helicopters to inspect and repair a critical component in the hydraulic system.

Who is affected: Only helicopters with serial numbers 30128–30287 and 30289–30296.

What must be done: Inspect and rework the spanner link assembly in the hydraulic servo cylinder, following the technical instructions in Bell Alert Service Bulletin No. 205-79-11.

Deadline: Within 100 hours of flight time after 31 January 1980.

Why this matters: These helicopters have a backup hydraulic system (called a redundant system) for safety. If the spanner link assembly interferes with this system, both the primary and backup systems could fail, potentially causing loss of control during flight.
