Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety directive (called an Airworthiness Directive or AD) that requires owners and operators of specific Bell helicopters to inspect the transmission oil system.

Who it affects: Anyone operating Model 205A and 205A-1 helicopters (military surplus or civilian versions of the famous "Huey" helicopter).

What must be done:

Inspect the transmission oil system following the manufacturer's instructions in Bell Service Bulletin 205-75-3
First inspection: Within 10 hours of flying time after 20 May 1975
Ongoing inspections: Every 50 hours of flying time thereafter

Why it matters: The transmission (the gearbox that transfers power from the engine to the rotor blades) relies on oil for cooling and lubrication. This directive ensures potential oil leaks or system failures are caught before they cause catastrophic mechanical failure in flight.
