Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This rule mandates the installation of temperature gauges (indicators) to monitor hydraulic fluid temperature on specific Bell 205A-1 helicopters.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Bell 205A-1 helicopters with serial numbers below 305153 that are equipped with dual hydraulic systems.

Why it matters: Hydraulic systems can overheat during operation. Without temperature monitoring, pilots cannot detect dangerous overheating that could lead to hydraulic failure and loss of aircraft control. This safety requirement prevents mechanical failures by ensuring operators can monitor fluid temperature in real-time.

What must be done: Install hydraulic fluid temperature indicators in accordance with Service Bulletin No. 205-06-73-1. This must be completed within 50 hours of flight time after 31 January 1974, or when the dual hydraulic system is first installed—whichever occurs first.
