AD/BELL 205/16 - Fire Detection System - Audible Warning - CANCELLED

This document cancels an old aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that applied to Bell 205 series helicopters.

What the original rule required:

• Issued in 1973, it mandated a modification to the engine fire detection system
• Specifically, it required adding an audible warning system to alert pilots of engine fires
• The deadline for this modification was 1 January 1975

Why it was cancelled:

• The Civil Aviation Safety Authority cancelled the rule on 12 March 2009
• Because the compliance deadline passed over 30 years prior, all affected helicopters would already have the modification installed
• The rule was therefore redundant and no longer needed

Who this affects:

• Owners and operators of Bell Helicopter Textron 205 series helicopters
• Practically, this removes a redundant paperwork requirement rather than imposing any new obligations
