What it does
This Airworthiness Directive, AD/BEECH 90/75 Amdt 5 (effective 5 July 2007), mandates inspection and corrective action for the nose landing gear lower shock absorber fork assembly on specified Beechcraft 90 and 65-90 (King Air) series aeroplanes. The Directive requires operators to inspect the nose landing gear fork assembly for cracks using specified non‑destructive test methods (fluorescent liquid penetrant or magnetic particle), in accordance with Part II of Raytheon Aircraft Company Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 32‑2102 Revision 7, Revised: July 2003. Where cracks are detected, the Directive requires incorporation of a specified nose landing gear fork kit , Kit No. 101‑8030‑1S or Kit No. 114‑8015‑1S, as applicable , following the instructions in the same MSB. If no cracks are detected, the Directive requires a repeat inspection at intervals not to exceed 200 hours time in service (TIS). The Directive records that incorporation of the kit is terminating action for the inspection requirement.
The Directive sets differential initial compliance timing depending on whether an aircraft was subject to a previous issue of this Directive: for aircraft affected by the previous issue, the initial inspection must occur within 200 hours TIS after the last inspection required by that previous issue; for aircraft not affected by the previous issue the initial inspection must occur within 200 hours TIS after 5 July 2007. Where cracks are found, incorporation of the kit must be completed before further flight. The document explicitly corrects an earlier drafting error by specifying Part II (not Part III) of the MSB as the relevant inspection procedure; it notes that this correction follows an error in the related FAA AD 2004‑23‑02 Amdt 39‑13857. The Directive is signed by David Punshon, Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), dated 9 May 2007, and becomes effective on 5 July 2007.
