Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a safety order (called an "Airworthiness Directive") that requires owners of specific Beechcraft King Air aeroplanes to install a backup latch on the nose baggage compartment door.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Beechcraft models C90 and E90 (King Air series) with specific serial numbers listed in Beechcraft Service Instruction No. 1171.

What must be done: Install a secondary latch mechanism on the nose baggage locker door according to the manufacturer's specifications in Service Instruction No. 1171. This had to be completed before 1 March 1982.

Why it matters: The manufacturer identified a safety risk with the original door design and deemed this modification mandatory to prevent the nose compartment door from opening accidentally during flight, which could create a hazard.
