Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a safety directive requiring owners of specific Beechcraft 76 Duchess aircraft to inspect and potentially repair the wing spar centre splice plates — metal plates that join sections of the main wing support structure.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Beechcraft Model 76 aircraft with serial numbers ME-1 through ME-6 and ME-8 through ME-185.

What must be done: You must follow the procedures in Beechcraft Service Instruction No. 1071 to check the splice plates. This addresses a manufacturing defect where the plates may have been scratched with a scriber (a sharp marking tool) during assembly, which could create stress points leading to cracks.

When: The work had to be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 31 October 1979, unless already done.

Why it matters: Structural damage to wing spar components can compromise aircraft integrity and safety.
