What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/BEECH 65/61 Amdt 5), effective 5 July 2007, mandates inspection and corrective action for the nose landing gear lower shock absorber fork assembly on specified Beechcraft 65 and 70 (Queen Air) series aeroplanes. The Directive requires operators to inspect the nose landing gear fork assembly for cracks using non‑destructive inspection methods , specifically fluorescent liquid penetrant or magnetic particle inspection , in accordance with Part II of Raytheon Aircraft Company Mandatory Service Bulletin (MSB) SB 32‑2102 Revision 7, Revised: July 2003. If cracks are detected, operators must incorporate one of two designated modification kits (Kit No. 101‑8030‑1S or Kit No. 114‑8015‑1S, as applicable) as specified in the MSB. If no cracks are detected, the Directive requires repeating the specified inspection at an interval not to exceed 200 hours time in service (TIS). The Directive also states that incorporation of the identified kit is terminating action for the inspection requirements of this Directive. The AD expressly cross‑refers FAA Corrected AD 2004‑23‑02 Amdt 39‑13857 (Note 2).
Mechanically, the Directive does three things: it prescribes the inspection method and the MSB reference (Part II of SB 32‑2102 Rev 7); it prescribes the corrective modification(s) to be applied where cracks are found (Kit No. 101‑8030‑1S or 114‑8015‑1S); and it sets discrete compliance timings (initial inspection timing, repeat interval of 200 hours TIS, and a before‑further‑flight requirement for addressing detected cracks). The Directive replaces an earlier text that incorrectly referenced Part III of the MSB; Amendment 5 corrects that to Part II in Requirement 3. The document includes background on prior amendments (noting Amendment 3 introduced a modification kit that removed repetitive inspection if fitted, and Amendment 4 altered inspection method and added aircraft to the applicability), and is signed by a CASA delegate (David Punshon) dated 16 May 2007.
