Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (a mandatory safety instruction issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority) requiring inspection and modification of reclining mechanisms on backward-facing passenger seats in certain Beechcraft Queen Air aeroplanes.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Beechcraft aircraft: Model 65 with serial numbers prior to LC-239, and Models 65-80 and 65-A80 with serial numbers prior to LD-221.

What you must do: Inspect and adjust the reclining stops (the mechanical limits that prevent seats from tilting back too far) on aft-facing (backward-facing) chairs, following the instructions in Beechcraft Service Bulletin 66-45. This prevents seats from reclining excessively, which could pose injury risks during turbulence or emergency landings.

Deadline: The work must be completed within 100 hours of flight time accumulated after 15 February 1967.

Why it matters: Faulty reclining stops could allow seats to collapse backward unexpectedly, endangering passengers during flight manoeuvres or impacts.
