Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This AD requires owners/operators of Beech Models 60, A60 and B60 (serials P‑4 to P‑596) to inspect lower forward wing bolts for a "Mercury Aerospace" mark and, if present, replace the bolt plus nuts and washers with an FAA‑approved bolt per Raytheon SB 57‑3328. Inspection must occur within 100 flight hours after 17 May 2001; replacements before further flight. The AD responds to reports that Mercury bolts may fail Rockwell hardness specifications, risking fatigue and wing separation; owners bear inspection, replacement and downtime costs.

AD/BEECH 60/46 Lower Forward Wing Bolt 5/2001

Applicability: Beech Models 60, A60, and B60 aircraft, serial numbers P-4 through P-596. Requirement: 1. Inspect the lower forward wing bolts (left and right) for the “Mercury Aerospace”

trademark in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Raytheon Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 57-3328 Issued July 1999.

Replace any lower forward wing bolt that has the “Mercury Aerospace” trademark with an FAA-approved bolt, and replace the associated nuts and washers; in accordance with SB 57-3328.

Note: FAA AD 2001-02-10 Amdt 39-12094 refers.

Compliance: 1. Within 100 hours’ time in service after 17 May 2001, unless already accomplished.

Before further flight.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 17 May 2001.

Background: The FAA received a report that wing bolts supplied by Mercury Aerospace may not meet the required Rockwell hardness specifications. Continued aircraft operation with such bolts could result in fatigue failure of the bolts with consequent separation of the wing from the aircraft.
