Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (AD) — a mandatory safety order issued by the aviation regulator that has the force of law.

What it requires: Owners of specific Beechcraft Duke aeroplanes (Models 60 and A60) that have backwards-facing (aft) passenger seats installed in the 3rd and 4th positions must follow the manufacturer's Service Instruction No. 0440-314. This typically involves inspections or modifications to ensure the seats are safe.

Who it affects: Anyone operating these specific aircraft models with the rear-facing seat configuration.

Compliance deadline: The work had to be completed within 100 hours of flight time (time in service) after 30 July 1971.

Why it matters: You cannot legally fly the aircraft until you comply with an AD. This rule addressed a specific safety defect with the rear-facing seats in these particular aircraft.
