Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This safety order requires owners of Beechcraft 56TC Turbo Baron aircraft fitted with the Hawker De Havilland shoulder‑harness and its “penny” washer to have the bolt area under the washer inspected for corrosion at the next scheduled maintenance after 3 November 1988.

If corrosion is found, it must be repaired by a Civil Aviation Safety Authority–approved method. The measure prevents shoulder‑harness detachment in a crash, protecting pilots and passengers.

AD/BEECH 56/28 Hawker De Havilland Restraint System 11/88

Applicability: All models fitted with a restraint system installed in accordance with Hawker De Havilland Drawing 05-F-670.

Requirement: Inspect for corrosion damage occurring in the structure at the upper torso restraint attachment under the bolt head AN 970-3 washer. Repair as necessary in accordance with a scheme approved by the Authority.

Compliance: At the next inspection for Maintenance Release issue after 3 November 1988.

Background: Three consecutively inspected aircraft modified in accordance with the De Havilland drawing have been found with corrosion under the steel AN 970-3 “penny” washer. In all cases the corrosion would have allowed separation of the upper attachment under load.
