What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive (AD) that mandates inspection and corrective action for a specific component on a defined set of Beechcraft Baron aeroplanes. Mechanically, it requires operators of Raytheon (Beechcraft) Baron models 58 and G58, serial numbers TH-2097 through TH-2150 inclusive, when those aeroplanes have optional propeller unfeathering accumulators installed, to: (1) inspect the left propeller accumulator oil tube assembly for chafing, (2) replace the assembly if chafing is found, and (3) reposition and secure the left manifold pressure hose and its metal identification tags with clamps so as to ensure clearance from tubes, hoses, electrical wires, parts, components and structure. The inspection and any corrective actions must be carried out "in accordance with the provisions of Raytheon Aircraft Company (RAC) Mandatory Service Bulletin (MSB) No. SB 61-3806 original issue dated August 2006 or later FAA approved revisions" (Requirement 1-3).
The AD sets two timing regimes for the initial inspection depending on prior maintenance: if the aeroplane has not had a 100-hour time-in-service (TIS) inspection or the inspection following Raytheon Safety Communiqué No. 271 (May 2006), the inspection must be completed within the next 25 hours TIS after the effective date; if it has had the 100‑hour or Safety Communiqué inspection, the inspection must be completed within the next 50 hours TIS after the effective date (Compliance 1). If chafing is found, replacement is required and must be effected "before further flight" (Compliance 2). The repositioning and reclamping of the manifold pressure hose and tags must also be completed "before further flight" after the inspection or replacement (Compliance 3). The AD became effective on 10 May 2007 and is signed by a CASA delegate, Charles Lenarcic, dated 27 March 2007. The AD also refers to FAA Airworthiness Directive 2007-06-07 (Amendment 39-14988) and allows reliance on later FAA-approved revisions of RAC MSB SB 61-3806.
