Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires owners/operators of Beechcraft 50 Twin Bonanza aircraft to inspect the clamps on the main exhaust augmenter tubes within 100 flight hours after 30 March 1973, with particular attention to the forward clamp at the rear of the firewall. Inspect for tight, secure clamps and proper clearance between clamp halves.

Because the specified bolts are deliberately long, use spacing washers so nuts don’t bottom out and torque nuts to 50–70 in‑lb (never exceed 100) to prevent exhaust leaks, fire, and cabin carbon monoxide.

AD/BEECH 50/24 Exhaust Augmenter Clamps 3/73

Applicability: All models.

Requirement: Inspect the clamps on the main augmenter tubes for security. Pay particular attention to the forward clamp at the rear of the fire-wall, adequate clearance must be present between the two halves of the clamp when fully tightened.

Note: The specified bolts AN4-13A are longer than strictly necessary in order to facilitate installation, therefore they must be fitted with the appropriate number of spacing washers and care must be taken to ensure that the nut does not bottom on the thread when fully torqued. The recommended torque values for the clamp nuts are 50- 70 in. lbs with 100 in. lbs maximum.

Compliance: Within 100 hours’ time in service after 30 March 1973.
