Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority that mandates specific maintenance on certain aircraft fuel systems.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Beechcraft 35 "Bonanza" series aircraft (specifically models listed in Beechcraft Mandatory Service Bulletin No. 2109).

What must be done: Aircraft owners must have their fuel reservoir tanks inspected within 25 hours of flight time after 31 July 1985, and thereafter follow the ongoing maintenance schedule set out in Beechcraft Service Bulletin 2109.

Why it matters: This amendment updates the safety requirements to use improved foam inserts inside fuel tanks. The manufacturer developed better foam parts, and this rule ensures aircraft owners follow the updated technical instructions (Service Bulletin 2109) rather than the older safety notice (Communique No. 67).

AD/BEECH 35/57

Amdt 1

Sponge Filled Fuel Reservoir Tanks 7/86

Applicability: All models as detailed in Beechcraft Mandatory Service Bulletin No. 2109. Requirement: Action in accordance with Beechcraft Mandatory Service Bulletin No. 2109.

Compliance: Inspect within 25 hours time in service after 31 July 1985 and thereafter as directed in the “Compliance” section of S.B. 2109.

Background: This Amendment to AD/BEECH 35/57 effectively changes the Requirement document from Beechcraft Safety Communique No. 67 to Mandatory Service Bulletin No. 2109. Beech now have improved reservoir foam inserts available and SB 2109 calls up these new parts.
