Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive mandates safety inspections for specific Beechcraft aeroplanes (models 19, 23, and 24) that were repaired by a particular Queensland maintenance company, Capricorn Aircraft Repair, between December 1985 and November 1990.

What must be checked:

Whether repairs were performed using approved data (official technical specifications and engineering documentation)
Whether replacement parts used are identical to the originals or officially approved alternatives

Consequences of non-compliance: If inspections reveal repairs were done without proper documentation or used incorrect parts, the aircraft cannot fly until the deficiencies are fixed.

Reporting requirement: The Civil Aviation Safety Authority must be notified whenever an aircraft is inspected under this directive.

When this must happen: At the next scheduled maintenance inspection after 21 March 1991.

Why this exists: Investigations found that this specific repair facility used unapproved structural repair methods and incorrect replacement components, creating potential safety risks.
