Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive orders owners of specific Beechcraft light aircraft to inspect and repair potentially dangerous control column bearing assemblies.

Who is affected Owners and operators of:

Beechcraft Model B19 (Serial Numbers MB-866 to MB-904)
Beechcraft Model C23 (Serial Numbers M-1971, and M-1980 to M-2076)
Beechcraft Model C24R (Serial Numbers MC-533, and MC-537 to MC-611)

What must be done Aircraft owners must follow the procedures in Beechcraft Service Instruction No. 1017 to check the control column bearing assemblies. This must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 31 May 1979.

Why this matters The manufacturer discovered that some bearing assemblies may have been incorrectly filed or ground down in the weld area during production. This could weaken the control column—the critical component connecting the pilot's yoke to the aircraft's control surfaces—potentially leading to loss of control.
