Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) mandates safety upgrades to seatbelts in Beechcraft 19, 23, and 24 series aircraft.

What it requires:

Install approved safety harnesses (seatbelt restraint systems) in each front seat, following a design approved by the Secretary
Fit the pilot's seat with an inertia reel (a self-locking mechanism that allows normal movement but locks instantly during sudden deceleration, similar to a car seatbelt)
For aircraft used in flying training, fit both front seats with inertia reels (not just the pilot's)

Who it affects: Owners and operators of these specific Beechcraft models, particularly flying schools and training organizations.

Why it matters: The directive improves occupant protection during accidents and hard landings. Inertia reels are especially critical in training aircraft, where student pilots may encounter situations requiring rapid deceleration protection.
