What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD) compels operators and owners of certain Beechcraft 200 series aircraft to take specific steps regarding the main landing gear (MLG) actuator nut assembly on the right-hand MLG actuator. The AD identifies two part numbers (P/N GMD115-810029-17 and P/N GMD115-810029-23) as unsafe due to multiple reported failures. It imposes four sequential requirements. First, the operator must check the maintenance records to determine whether either of those actuator nut assemblies has already been replaced. The operator may skip the records check and proceed directly to inspection if preferred. Second, where no record of such replacement exists, the aircraft must be physically inspected (using the procedure in General Machine Diecron Inc. Service Bulletin GM-D32-30-01/102505 dated 21 November 2005) to see whether either of the two suspect assemblies is present. Third, if either suspect assembly is found, it must be replaced with a new assembly (P/N GMD115-810029-23B or an approved equivalent) before the next flight. Fourth, from the effective date of the AD, no person may install either of the two suspect part numbers on the right MLG actuator. The compliance deadlines are strict. The records check and inspection must be completed within 50 hours time-in-service (TIS) or 30 calendar days after the effective date of 31 August 2006, whichever comes first. The replacement is required before further flight if the suspect assembly is found. The AD originates from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and references a parallel Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) AD (2006-12-25). This directive is a mandatory legal requirement under the Civil Aviation Act 1988 and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998. Its stated purpose is to prevent failure of the actuator nut assembly, which could cause the MLG to fail to extend or retract, potentially leading to a serious landing incident. The AD does not create any new ongoing duties beyond the initial compliance action, though the prohibition on installing the suspect parts remains in force indefinitely.
