What it does
This Civil Aviation Safety Authority Airworthiness Directive, AD/BEECH 200/45 Amendment 5 (15/2021), imposes mandatory inspection and modification requirements for the nose landing gear lower shock absorber fork assembly on specified Beechcraft 200 series aeroplanes. The instrument requires operators of listed models and serial numbers to inspect the nose landing gear fork assembly for cracks using specified non‑destructive test methods, and to fit a defined modification kit if cracks are found. The AD establishes initial compliance timing, a repetitive inspection interval, and a terminating action for the repeat inspections if the modification kit is fitted.
Mechanically, the Directive mandates:
- an inspection using fluorescent liquid penetrant or magnetic particle methods in accordance with Part II of Raytheon Aircraft Company Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 32‑2102 Revision 7 (July 2003) as in force at the commencement of the AD (Requirement 1);
- if cracks are found, incorporation of Kit No. 101‑8030‑1S or Kit No. 114‑8015‑1S, as applicable, in accordance with Part III of the same MSB (Requirement 2), and that kit incorporation is stated to be terminating action for the inspection requirements (Note 1);
- if no cracks are found, repeat inspection at intervals not to exceed 200 hours time in service (TIS) in accordance with Part II of the MSB (Requirement 3).
The AD specifies initial inspection timing depending on whether the aircraft was affected by earlier issues of the Directive (1.a and 1.b). It further prescribes that where cracks are discovered they must be addressed before further flight (Compliance 2). The Directive commences on 17 August 2021 and is signed by a CASA delegate, David Punshon (16 July 2021). The text also introduces a planning tolerance: if the aircraft is on the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, a planning tolerance of plus or minus 10 percent may be applied to the 200 hour TIS inspection periods (Note 3). The AD references FAA AD 2004‑23‑02 (Note 2) and the Raytheon MSB as the normative maintenance procedure.
