What it does
This document is an airworthiness directive (AD) for Beechcraft 200 (Super King Air) series aeroplanes, issued as AD/BEECH 200/38 Amendment 6 and made effective 24 May 2013. Mechanically, the AD requires targeted inspections of the outer wing attach bolts and nuts, wing attach fittings and the wing main spars, and mandates the retirement (removal from service) of outer wing attach bolts and nuts at intervals specified in the referenced maintenance manual. The AD distinguishes two inspection regimes depending on whether the aircraft has been modified under STC SA1602CE. For unmodified aircraft the requirement is to "inspect and retire the outer wing attach bolts and nuts, and inspect the attach fittings and the wing main spars" in accordance with the Beechcraft Structural Inspection and Repair Manual (SIRM) P/N 98-39006C3 as revised February 2008 or later approved revision, Chapter 57-17-00, "GENERAL - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES (MODEL 200 SERIES)". For aircraft modified under STC SA1602CE, the scope is slightly different: inspect and retire the outer wing attach bolts and nuts, and inspect the outer wing upper attach fittings, the wing main spar upper cap, the portion of the lower spar cap outboard of the strap installation, and accessible portions of the lower attach fittings, in accordance with the same SIRM chapter, and also "carry out the 'Instructions for continued Airworthiness' as detailed in the STC SA1602CE document EO-B-8001." The AD sets the inspection timing to the "initial inspection thresholds and recurring inspection intervals specified in the applicable Requirement documents" and requires retirement of attach bolts and nuts "at the times detailed in the SIRM."
The AD is mandatory in the aircraft's country of origin and cross-references FAR 43.13 (see Note 1). The AD replaces and consolidates prior ADs and inspection documents: it derives the inspection methods from the SIRM (which superseded Beechcraft Service Instruction 0514-035 Rev 2), and Amendment 4 consolidated duplicate requirements from AD/BEECH 200/39 Amdt 4 into a single directive. Amendment 6 corrects the date of the requirement document and permits use of future approved revisions of the SIRM. The AD becomes effective 24 May 2013 and is signed by the Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, dated 17 May 2013.
