This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 July 1999.

Background: The United States Federal Aviation Administration has advised of an incident in a Beech 1900D aeroplane where a passenger had put on an oxygen mask and the lanyard pin did not automatically pull and initiate oxygen flow during a loss of pressurisation.

This Directive requires the installation of shorter length cabin oxygen mask lanyards which will ensure the oxygen flow mechanism is automatically activated as the mask is grasped and pulled to the face. This action is designed to prevent passenger injury if the lanyard pin is not manually pulled in a timely manner.
