Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (a mandatory safety order issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority) that applies to all Boeing 767 aircraft operated in Australia.

What it requires: Operators must inspect the smoke detectors located in the equipment cooling systems and cargo compartments. Specifically, they need to check that the correct type of decal (sticker or label) is installed on these detectors, and replace any incorrect ones.

Who is affected: Anyone operating Boeing 767 aeroplanes.

How to comply: Follow the exact instructions in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin No. 767-26A0081 (a technical manual from the manufacturer). This requirement had to be completed by 30 June 1992.

Why it matters: Wrong decals on smoke detectors could confuse maintenance crews or pilots during emergencies, potentially delaying response to fire or smoke warnings.
