What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/B767/224) requires operators of certain Boeing 767-300 series aeroplanes to determine whether specified galleys, buffets or closets are installed, and where those galleys use identified part numbers, to replace the spiral protective wrapping on the galley electrical cabling with a replacement wrapping that meets specified flammability testing requirements. The instrument sets a single compliance pathway: either a physical inspection of galleys or a review of maintenance records to identify the part numbers listed in Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 767-25-0297 Revision 1 dated 11 November 2004 (Requirement 1). If a galley is fitted with a part number listed in that service bulletin, the operator must replace the spiral protective wrapping on the galley electrical cables in accordance with the applicable Boeing service information (Requirement 2). If the galley does not carry an identified part number, no further action is required (Requirement 1). The Directive accepts as compliant prior replacements done before its effective date if those replacements followed Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 767-25-0297 dated 15 March 2001 (Requirement 2). It also accepts later revisions of the Boeing service bulletin, provided those revisions have been approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration as an Alternate Method of Compliance to FAA AD 2006-12-06 (Requirement 2; Note 2). The compliance period for the inspection and any required replacement is 72 months after the Directive’s effective date (Compliance). The AD was issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, signed by James Coyne as Delegate, dated 20 June 2006, and becomes effective on 3 August 2006 (effective date and signature block). The applicability is tightly drawn to Model 767-300 series aeroplanes equipped with certain Driessen Aircraft Interior Systems or Showa Aircraft Industries galleys, and the instrument explicitly states that the term galley includes “buffet” and “closet” for the purposes of the Directive (Applicability; Note 1; Requirement).
