What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/B767/204, number 2/2005) mandates a one-time detailed inspection of all wire bundles, including power feeder cables W208 and W236, in the forward cargo compartment ceiling of Boeing 767-200 and -300 series aeroplanes. The inspection covers the area from stations 368 through 742 and from right buttock lines 40 through 70, where the wire bundles are routed along the ceiling. The specific concern is chafing or damage near stand-offs that attach the cargo ceiling liner to the floor beams. The directive requires the inspection to be performed in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-24A0128, Revision 3, dated 24 June 2004. Any discrepancies found must be repaired before further flight. In addition to the inspection for discrepancies, the directive requires an examination of the clearance between all wire bundles (including power feeder cables) and the cargo liner standoffs. Depending on the measured clearance, the directive prescribes tiered corrective actions: no further action if clearance meets a threshold, installation of sleeving and lacing tape at an intermediate clearance, or installation of sleeving, lacing tape, cable spacers, and straps at the tightest clearance. The directive becomes effective on 17 February 2005. The compliance timeline for the initial inspection is within 18 months or 6,000 hours time in service after the effective date, whichever occurs later. The clearance examination must be performed concurrently with the inspection. Any required corrective actions arising from the clearance examination must be completed before further flight. The directive includes a grandfathering provision: inspections and corrective actions performed before the effective date in accordance with earlier revisions of the same Boeing service bulletin are accepted, provided they covered all wire bundles including W208 and W236 in the specified area. The directive also permits the use of an alternative part: a tie cord having part number BMS 13-54 or equivalent may be used instead of a tie strap having part number BACS38K2 for the corrective actions.
