Plain English Summary

5/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Boeing 747 aeroplanes (line numbers 1–1255) to carry out the inspections and corrective actions set out in FAA AD 2003-10-06 to find and fix cracks around the aft lower-lobe cargo door cutout. CASA made compliance mandatory from 7 August 2003.

The directive’s stated purpose is to prevent reduced structural integrity and possible rapid depressurisation. Aircraft operators pay for inspections and repairs; specified repairs must be approved by the FAA Seattle ACO manager or an authorised Boeing DER, creating an approval and administrative burden.
