This Airworthiness Directive mandates inspections and corrective action for the drip shield and its supports located above the rudder pedals on Boeing 747‑400 and ‑400D aeroplanes to prevent an unrestrained drip shield from interfering with the rudder‑pedal mechanism and reducing controllability.

Operators of the affected aircraft must carry out inspections and any terminating repairs in accordance with FAA AD 2003‑02‑02 and Boeing Service Bulletin 747‑25A3271 Rev 1 by the compliance dates (effective 20 March 2003); operators bear the inspection and repair costs and must comply under CASA’s regulatory authority (Applicability; Requirement; Compliance; Background).
