Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires Boeing 747 series aeroplanes listed in FAA AD 2002-19-12 to have the engine fire‑extinguisher discharge pipes modified according to that FAA AD. It supersedes AD/B747/227 and becomes effective 26 December 2002.

It targets operators of B747s fitted with GE CF6-80C2 or PW4000 engines after cracking was found (Background). The CASA delegate mandates the terminating modification; aircraft owners/operators must pay for, schedule and carry out the modification per the FAA instructions instead of continuing the repetitive inspections.
