This Airworthiness Directive (AD) cancels a previous safety rule for Boeing 747 aircraft.
What it does:
- Cancels the earlier version of AD/B747/271, effective 6 July 2006. The original directive required inspections or maintenance of the horizontal stabiliser centre section and rear spar upper chord (critical structural parts at the tail of the aircraft).
- Redirects operators to the replacement rule: AD/B747/294 Amendment 1, which now contains these safety requirements in an updated form.
Who it affects:
Owners and operators of Boeing 747 series aeroplanes.
Why it matters:
Airworthiness Directives are legally binding safety instructions issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). This cancellation means operators must stop using the old directive and follow the requirements in the newer consolidated directive (AD/B747/294 Amdt 1) instead.
