Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires Boeing 747-400 aeroplanes modified under FAA STC SA8843SW to have their passenger entertainment system (PES) retrofitted with load‑shed relays and associated cabling and to have the Aircraft Flight Manual Non‑Normal Procedures updated so crews can use the “UTILITY BUS ON/OFF” switches to remove PES power. Operators must complete the work within 18 months; after the AD takes effect the PES may not be installed under that STC unless these steps are done. It matters because the change lets crews isolate PES power to help control smoke or fumes.
