What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/B737/330) imposes mandatory inspection and corrective actions on a subset of Boeing 737 series aeroplanes. It applies to Model 737-600, -700, -700C, -800 and -900 series aeroplanes as identified in Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin (SB) 737-28-1257, Revision 1, dated 28 November 2007. The Directive requires a general visual inspection of ground blocks GD261 and GD264 for corrosion, measurement of the electrical bond resistance between those ground blocks and the aeroplane structure, and separation of the ground wires for the fuel boost pump circuit between GD261 and GD264, performed in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of SB 737-28-1257, Revision 1 (Requirement 1). Any discrepancies discovered during those inspections or measurements must be rectified in accordance with the same Boeing SB (Requirement 2). The AD sets the compliance times: Requirement 1 must be completed within 24 months after the Directive’s effective date; Requirement 2 must be completed before further flight after complying with Requirement 1. The Directive became effective on 3 July 2008 and is signed by the Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (22 May 2008).
The Directive explicitly recognises earlier work done against Boeing SB 737-28-1257 dated 26 February 2007 as acceptable for compliance with the corresponding requirements if performed before the AD’s effective date. It also accepts later revisions of SB 737-28-1257 where such revisions have been approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Alternate Method of Compliance (AMOC) to FAA AD 2008-09-14. The AD notes FAA AD 2008-09-14 Amdt 39-15495 as the related FAA action and cites the FAA report that motivated the AD: random flashes of six fuel pump low pressure lights and intermittent operation of the fuel boost pumps, creating a risk that all six pumps could malfunction simultaneously and cause the engines to operate on suction feed and potentially flame out. The operative technical document for implementation is Boeing SB 737-28-1257, Revision 1, dated 28 November 2007; compliance actions are to follow its Accomplishment Instructions.
