This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of specified Boeing 727 series aircraft to inspect the main-deck cargo door forward and aft hinge fitting areas for cracks and to repair any crack before further flight, following the technical requirements of FAA AD 2004-03-31 and Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 727-53A0226. It takes effect 13 May 2004. Operators pay for inspections and repairs; repair methods must be approved by the FAA Seattle ACO Manager or an authorised Boeing DER. The measure targets cracking that could lead to rapid decompression.
