Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This directive requires owners/operators of all Boeing 727 series aircraft to inspect the wing rear spar upper chord for cracking, following the technical procedures in FAA AD 2002-04-06 (see Boeing Service Bulletin 727-57-0184). Operators pay for inspections and any repairs; the CASA delegate enforces compliance and set the effective date as 16 May 2002 because cracking can cause fuel leaks, reduced wing strength, or possible wing separation.
