This directive requires operators of all Boeing 727-200s to carry out repeated inspections of the forward lower fuselage skin and to install a mandated preventive modification, following Boeing Alert Service Bulletin SB 727-53A0203 Rev 1. It was issued after discovery of long skin cracks overseas (and locally) to reduce structural risk; operators are legally responsible for scheduling, paying for and implementing the inspections and the one‑time modification.
