AD/B-2/5 - Tail Cone Reinforcement - CANCELLED

This document cancels an old aircraft safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) for Brantly B-2 series helicopters.

What the old rule required Back in 1960, regulators issued a directive requiring owners to reinforce the tail cone (the rear structural section) of these helicopters. This was a mandatory fix to strengthen the airframe in accordance with manufacturer Service Bulletin No. 5.

Why it is being cancelled The original rule required immediate compliance. Because nearly 50 years have passed, aviation authorities assume every affected helicopter has already been modified. Since no unmodified aircraft are believed to remain in service, the rule is redundant.

What this means As of 4 June 2009, aircraft owners and maintenance engineers no longer need to track or prove compliance with this specific tail cone modification. The requirement has been removed from the aviation safety rules.
