Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it is: An immediate safety order for owners of Auster/Beagle A.61 series light aircraft.

What it requires:

Inspection: Check the engine mount bolts (the bolts that attach the engine to the airframe) for any marked "NEWTON".
Replacement: If you find "NEWTON" bolts, replace them immediately with high-tensile bolts meeting British Standard Specification 2A.15.

Who it affects: Anyone operating or maintaining Auster/Beagle A.61 series aeroplanes.

Why it matters: The engine mount keeps the engine attached to the plane. If these bolts fail due to insufficient strength, the engine could detach during flight — with catastrophic results. This directive grounds the aircraft until the defect is fixed (compliance is "forthwith" — meaning immediately).
