What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) mandates the mandatory retirement of specific airframe components on all models of Airtractor 600 series aeroplanes before they reach defined operational life limits. The directive applies to both the original issue and this amendment (Amdt 1) which revises the retirement lives for two components relating to the fin structure and corrects a part number. The core requirement is that each component listed in the Retirement Schedule must be removed from service permanently prior to exceeding the stated time in service (measured in flight hours or number of landings, whichever occurs first for landing gear springs). The schedule covers the left and right hand lower spar caps in the wing (part numbers 20603-1 and 20603-2) with a retirement life of 6500 flight hours; the wing attach blocks on the lower cap (part numbers 20602-1 and 20602-2) also at 6500 hours; the Plate Assembly - Fin Front Spar Attach (part number 30511-1) and the Spar Assembly - Fin Rear (part number 30315-1) with lives to be taken from the Airworthiness Limitations Section approved by the FAA in the Owners Manual, rather than specified directly in the AD; the main landing gear spring leg (part number 40086-4) including the forward and aft main gear clamp block bolts and the inboard main gear large bolt with a life of 3000 hours or 8000 landings whichever occurs first; and the tail landing gear spring leg (part number 40092-4) with the same life limit. Where the total number of landings during a period of service has not been recorded, the AD imposes a mandatory assumption of three landings per one hour of time in service. The directive becomes effective on 21 December 2010. The background explains that the initial issue formally promulgated the airframe component life limitations determined by the manufacturer, and this amendment revises the retirement lives for the two fin components and corrects a part number. The AD is signed by a delegate of CASA and has the formal CASA number AD/AT 600/1 Amdt 1, with the CASA reference 25/2010. It overrides any previous contradictory information in the Maintenance Manual or other documentation regarding component lives for the affected parts.
